Welcome to the PGT community! We are so happy to have you join our cast and crew. Here’s a bit of background on us and what to expect when you participate in PGT productions.
Theater Background - It’s About Community
The Port Gamble Theater is an all-volunteer, self-supporting, non-profit organization. We offer a supportive, collaborative environment and encourage people with all levels of theater experience to audition, act, and volunteer. Some of our volunteers are accomplished theater professionals, while others are people who are eager to learn about acting; set design and construction; sound and lighting tech; costuming and props; and theater management. Our goal is to expand the vibrant community of live theater enthusiasts we have here in North Kitsap.
Participation and Rehearsals - Are You In?
We deeply appreciate the talent, time, and effort that all of our volunteers put in on stage and behind the scenes throughout the entire year. It takes a significant commitment and mutual support between cast and crew to produce high-quality shows.
Expectations of Cast and Crew:
- Be kind and generous to one another from start to finish. It takes WORK to produce a live show and there are always bumps along the way. Ultimately, we are all in this to build community and to deliver an entertaining, high-quality experience.
- Rehearsals are often 3-4 nights per week over the course of 10-12 weeks. Absences at rehearsal are hard on the entire cast and crew, and they affect the quality of the show. Please arrive on-time with your script and pencil, and prepare to work. If you cannot make this commitment, please let the director know as soon as possible so we can recast the role.
- Sign-in and sign-out with the stage manager for every rehearsal and performance. It helps us keep everyone safe and accounted for, and all of the valuable volunteer hours you log help the PGT qualify for matching grant funds.
- Actors are responsible for the proper care of their costumes and props. No smoking, eating, or drinking (except for water) while on set. Costumes must be properly stored in the dressing room after each performance. Costumes are to never leave the theater without the director’s permission.
- Dressing room etiquette. We have separate dressing rooms for guys and gals. Please knock before entering a dressing room. Please be respectful of this shared space and keep it tidy. Please do not wear perfume or cologne. Be mindful of the personal items you bring to the theater. PGT is not responsible for the damage or loss of any personal items you bring.
- Participants under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to leave the theater unless they have written permission from a parent or guardian. There will always be at least 2 adults in the room whenever a minor is present.
- Personal expenses for prop and set materials must be approved by the director in advance of the purchase if you wish to be reimbursed.
- PGT is a 100% tobacco, smoke, and vape-free venue.
Tech Week and Performances - They Don’t call it “Hell Week” for Nuthin’
- Attendance is required for every day of tech week and for each run of the show. Cast and crew must arrive at their scheduled call time. Actors are required to participate in the scheduled set strike after the last show.
- Park in the lot behind the theater and enter via the rear fire escape stairs. This leaves more parking spaces for show patrons.
Want Family and Friends to See the Show for Low or No Cost? Here’s How:
- Have them attend the “pay-what-you-want” dress rehearsal of the production. Proceeds from rehearsal ticket sales benefit the PGT scholarship fund.
- Volunteer to work the box office, front of house, or tend bar for a specific show. Happily, we have a dedicated and growing list of volunteers, so get on the list early if you want to see a show on a certain day. There are a limited number of volunteer spots available for each show.
Other Questions?
Have a chat with the director or stage manager for your show. We want to make participating at Port Gamble Theater fun and fulfilling for everyone involved.
